Recently I have been teaching English to some elderly people and I always get impressed by their desire to improve their English skills for different reasons. Some of them are not going to travel abroad but they still want to take English classes as a way to exercise their brain. Others will travel overseas and their lessons help them become more confident. A few of them just want to have some fun and do something different in their routine. It’s an interesting form to spend time as there are a lot of benefits in studying a foreign language such as:
- – opening up to new cultures including music, literature, movies, documentaries and travels.
- – having fun
- – learning new things
- – exercising your brain
- – keeping the brain healthy and young
- – delaying the onset of symptoms for some age-related diseases
- – making new neural connections
- – improving self-esteem
- – improving cognitive functions
Congratulations for all my elderly students for taking English classes regularly and for not being afraid of challenges and for not being embarrassed to speak English in front of other people!
Well-done!
