What is a priority? According to a dictionary, a priority is the most important thing you have to do or deal with, or must be done or dealt with before everything else you have to do. That’s a good definition of a priority and we should always try to have our priorities in life. In our everyday life, it is essential to prioritize what must be done first. We are all so busy and we always say to ourselves and to others that we don’t have time to do this or that. However, recently I watched a Ted talk that made me think about time. We own our time. We have 24 hours a day as everybody else. We can make our decisions and our choices about how we spend our time. We have 168 hours a week. Let’s suppose we sleep 8 hours a day and we work 8 hours a day. That is 112 hours a week. That means we still have 56 hours a week to spend the way we want. We can take care of our children, exercise, read, paint or whatever we want and need to do. In my point of view, what we can’t do is spend all this time on the phone and on social medias. I can’t understand how some people waste so much time of their lives on that. Nevertheless, I have to respect their choices. It’s their lives and they are responsible for making their own decisions. Time management should be taught at schools. Our kids and teens should learn how to manage their time as this is crucial for them to achieve their goals and dreams. It’s interesting to see some people’s answers when they are asked why they don’t do volunteer work or why they don’t do exercise. They usually say they don’t have time. However, their answer means it’s not a priority for them. If it were, they would find time. Henry David Thoreau said:
It’s not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?
